What did he just say?

Image
Bella DePaulo is a social scientist who has extensive publications on the psychology of lying. Most recently, "Alone: The Badass Psychology of People Who Like Being Alone." She remarks about Mr. Trump, "I spent the first two decades of my career as a social scientist studying liars and their lies. I thought I had developed a sense of what to expect from them. Then along came President Trump. His lies are both more frequent and more malicious than ordinary people's." By the Washington Post's count, in Trump's first 298 days in office, he made 1,628 false or misleading claims or flip-flops. This is far higher than the 'average' rate from DePaulo's studies. ================================================ As an Update at day 558 days, the false or misleading claims count is now at 4,229 649 Days  6,420 False or misleading statements 1000 days   13,435   False or misleading statements

Resurrected TheDraw

Image
The draw created the frame work. Gimp allowed me to make an animated GIF. I can see having some fun with this. Took a bit to get the "Registered" version of TheDraw 4.63 installed. I had to install it into windows first. Then i could transfer via thumbdrive.

LinkedIn Creeped me out

Image
I don't know if it is just Microsoft or what, but LinkedIn must have read my contacts from my computer. So when they suggested I add people to my Network and one of them was a friend who had died some number of years ago, that creeped me out. It suggested some other email addresses. Some of which were older email addresses of my own, that are still in my address list in my email program. I guess I feel like they need to be a little less intrusive. It just means they feel like they have the right to 'search' my stuff. That will not endear them to me. Nor will it make me think I need to be part of this new endeavor of theirs. I'm not sure how anyone else feels about the acquisition of LinkedIn by Microsoft. I'm not feeling the love. I'm feeling like my pockets were just picked.

Trump Continues to Dismay

Image
Eugene Robinson, in a recent Washington Post opinion wrote; "The Court of Mad King Donald is not a presidency. It is an affliction, one that saps the life out of democratic institutions, and it must be fiercely resisted if the nation as we know it is to survive." I had high hopes for Mr. Trump going in. A friend had interviewed him back in the 90s, and was impressed by him, and assured me that he would make good Presidential material. After his first bit of 'tweeting', and his use and abuse of a twitter account, I wondered when the 'adulting' would begin. I'm just hopeful that there are enough checks and balances in our government, that Mr. Trump cannot do irreparable damage. Quite frankly, I do not see Mr. Trump completing his term as President. I'm ashamed of his behaviour. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

New way to extend your Network

Image
The wifi gadget for my old desktop started having issues. Wouldn't stay connected. The D-Link modules use your house wiring to extend your network. Hook one up to your router and then plug it into the wall. Hook the other one up to you computer and plug it into the wall. They should connect to one another, and magically, it's like you have an ethernet cable connected to your computer, from your router. This saves trying to figure out how to run an ethernet cable to where there is none. However, after some time in use, the wife says the d-link is making her smartphone disconnect from calls. Since the d-link uses the house wiring which has no shielding, I can see where this might be an issue. The d-links are disconnected, and i'm using my laptop to assist the old desktop in connecting to the internet. The laptop connects via wifi and the desktop is connected via ethernet cable to the laptop. So far so good.

Thaxton Dawk Doll

Image
The Lloyd Thaxton show was kind of like Bandstand. In the early 60's it was carried by KPTV in Portland, and later on syndicated nationally (1964). I had one of the "Dawk" dolls. Came with several signs you could swap out. I'm not sure who all carried the show in the early years. We got tv out of Portland, OR., and I got to see the show.

Wifi for my desktop

Image
This and the proper driver can connect your computer if you have a usb port. There are both windows and linux drivers available. Linux drivers may be aimed at debian exclusively. This is  LUbuntu 12.04 on a P4 with a Gig of Ram. If I shutdown I have an alias i use to restart the wifi driver. I should just add it to startup. But I don't shut it down that often. Until some update wants a reboot. It's connected to IRC for me. I thought getting the alias working was an ok upgrade. Some devices I found were windows only. No mention of Linux. I knew better than go there. I also wasn't looking to spend a lot of money to keep my old desktop connected to the InterWeb. This was under $20 and some of my time to figure out the driver. My Rhino thumb drive is actually bigger than the device. ================================================= I'm revisiting this tech in 2019. Linuxmint 19 runs nicely on my old desktop and it built the driver for the device easily. Had some ...

Mr. Trump to be inaugurated in a week

Image
I wish that soon to be President Trump would stop tweeting, and pissing people off. Maybe that is his intention. I can only hope so, and that his plan will be revealed. Otherwise, he needs adult supervision.
